Moving to Barcelona for a few months — whether for study, remote work, or an internship — is exciting. But packing for a 1 to 11-month stay can feel overwhelming. You need more than just the essentials for a weekend trip, but not quite a full household either.
Here’s a smart, minimalist guide to what to bring, what to leave, and how to plan for a comfortable mid-term stay in Barcelona.

1. Versatile Clothing (for All Seasons)
Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate — hot summers, mild winters, but it can surprise you with rain or cold nights. Pack:
Layer-friendly outfits (T-shirts, light sweaters, hoodies)
A warm jacket (especially if you're here October–March)
Comfortable walking shoes + sneakers
Swimwear and a beach towel
Light rain jacket or umbrella
Pro tip: Locals dress casually but stylishly — skip heavy boots or overpacking formalwear.
2. Personal Toiletries & Health Items
Bring enough of any prescription meds (plus documentation)
Daily essentials like toothbrush, shampoo, and shaving tools
Travel-size versions for your first week; you can restock at local supermarkets or pharmacies
3. Tech & Electronics
Laptop, phone, chargers, and headphones
A universal plug adapter (Spain uses Type C & F sockets, 220V)
Optional: portable charger, Kindle, USB stick
4. Important Documents
Passport and visa (if applicable)
Copy of your rental contract (if you already have one)
Health insurance and/or EHIC card (for EU citizens)
Student ID or acceptance letter (for discounts!)
